Robert Rand is an experienced acoustician, musician, and polarity therapist.
Robert Rand’s version of acoustician is all about sound as it affects people. Sound outdoors, sound indoors, sound during live performances, in recordings. Robert’s in his fourth decade of professional practice as a consultant in acoustics, with a strong emphasis on industrial noise emissions and controls.
Polarity Therapy was developed by Dr. Randolph Stone, DO, DC, ND (1890-1981), who conducted a thorough investigation of energy in the healing arts over the course of his 60-year medical career. Drawing on information from a wide range of sources, he found that the Human Energy Field is affected by touch, diet, movement, sound, attitudes, relationships, life experience, trauma and environmental factors. Since Polarity Therapy lends an energy-based perspective to all these subjects, the scope of Polarity practice is often very broad, with implications for health professionals in many therapeutic disciplines. Having completed a 650-hour advanced polarity therapy program between 1995 and 1998, Robert held a vibrant polarity therapy practice on personal referral, separate yet concurrent with his acoustical work, with an emphasis on the use of sound during deep core relaxation and alignment. In the last few years Robert’s therapy work has shifted into sound as the core and focus of the work.
Music, Healing, and Acoustics
Growing up in a musical home, Robert was influenced by and embraced all kinds of music early in life. He had fond memories of his parents singing at the piano, of listening to mountain country music and opera, and singing barbershop harmony. In 1970 Robert experienced spontaneous synesthesia (sound as color and texture) while listening to a guitarist and as a result started studying guitar and pedal steel. At college he became intensely interested in the acoustics of spaces, studying mathematics, electronic music composition and acoustics. After moving on to working and touring as a sound engineer, his reality changed in 1981 while working as acoustical consultant in Boston when he had a near-death experience. The visions and sounds of the world he traveled to remain vivid. For several months he saw and heard people’s auras to an almost disturbing degree. When a decade later he became very ill while working, he made the decision to turn to alternative healing through acupuncture and herbs which returned him to vigorous health. Inspired by this, he then completed a three-year study of polarity therapy and practiced as a polarity therapist and medical intuitive. However alternative healing and holistic practices coexisted all the while with music and professional acoustics.
Robert continues to play music in ensembles and for special performances, and continues his professional work including acoustical consulting, commissioned works, and audio design for interior spaces. Wavepool is his first public release CD combining inspired sound, professional healing work, and environmental acoustics.
